Welcome to Canaan Christian College. Please take a few moments to learn more about us and to see what we have to offer.
The college is quite new, and is still very much in its developmental stage, but we are committed to making it a valuable resource for our local community, and for churches both locally and further afield. The college has from the start had a particular mission to serve the deaf community and those who work with them.
Canaan Christian College is different. You can see and feel this difference on the site, and in those who work and study here. It is a safe place to learn. It is a place to grow. Every person, staff or student is special in themselves, and expected to recognise that everyone else is special too. We want to demonstrate our faith by the way we conduct ourselves in our daily living, by being a positive influence on those with whom we work and play.
For the community, we would seek to work with those who are disadvantaged in any way, seeking to repair damaged lives, to bring hope and opportunity in a safe environment. We offer British Sign Language courses at Levels 1 and 2, which prove popular with local schools and other employers, and this year we will be offering shorter BSL courses tailored to the needs of a major employer in the community. Canaan Christian College also hosts GNVQ Level 3 studies in Children’s Care (Learning and development) in cooperation with Beneast Training. First Steps Christian Pre-School, run by the same charity that administers Canaan Christian College, occupies the ground floor of the college building and provides a great grounding for children and a valuable service to the community.
As a Christian college we want to serve our local churches too. We don’t seek simply to study the bible, but to equip students to minister effectively in their churches and in their communities. We want to help to bring life back to struggling churches, by providing a clear understanding of the bible’s teachings, by bringing new vitality to our services through music, movement and other forms of worship. We will equip students to minister effectively in children’s work, youth work, and many other areas of the Christian life. Our students will be confident and eager to spread the Good News to their communities effectively and with a passion for the lost.
To this end we are building a range of courses, and developing new ones each year. We have introduced bible studies ranging from Genesis to Revelation. Practical courses that apply the bible’s teaching to home making and parenting will make a difference to family life. We want to be open to input from local churches – if it’s biblical and relevant then we are interested in working with others to deliver a course that will meet the need.
We trust that you will find something in the courses outlined here that speaks to you personally - something that will challenge you, help you to grow, and above all help you to minister and encourage others.
